Over 30 years of professional software development, or as I prefer to say; over 30 years of hacking and bodging systems to make the release date. Get in touch via the [not yet written] contacts page and let me help you make that next release date in your expensive and vital to humanity product you need to inflict on your unwilling customers :)
So this is me, Steve, trying to kick out and move away from that easy life of turning up from about 9am to about 5pm on a contractors wage (which is actually quite good!) and then driving for a few hours to grab a few minuates of fun over the weekend before preparing do to the next week.
In theory, I love what I do for a living but what I end up doing from day to day is just a rinse and repeat cycle. Code should be well planned, reviewed, follow a standard and be throughly tested to ensure the best product is released to the customer. What I end up doing is applying Duct Tape to code to make it work and get it out the door.
And then we come onto what I love doing for in my free time, I just love to hack around with any old piece of junk! Coding standards, no; reviews, no; testing would be nice and stability in final products would be very welcome. But hey; most of these projects, just hacking around, last for a universal star twinkle. Then they get ripped to bits and hacked into the next project.
Now we come back to this website. I though I would document some of the things I do, for others to maybe learn and most importantly, somewhere I can refer back to when I need to do a simimar job again and can't remember how I did it the first time :)
Until next time, Arrivederci.
